Carham Hall is a large country mansion house with extensive grounds on the banks of the famous River Tweed in the beautiful English/Scottish Borders. Situated in the village of Carham, between Cornhill upon Tweed and Kelso it is an idyllic countryside setting. Visitors are welcome and interested parties are encouraged to contact us .

Established as a private residential home in 1984, the proprietor, Jean Baxter, who was a District Nurse with Berkshire Health Authority for 21 years and has been proprietor manager at Carham Hall for the past 27 years, live on the premises and together with a team of friendly, experienced staff provide exceptional Respite, Intermediate, Dementia and permanent Personal Care.

The Carham Hall team is committed to working hard to fulfil the very highest standards of care for all our guests and we welcome enquires and personal visits.

Carham Hall is presented more as a residential Hotel than a care home with well appointed Double, Twin or Single rooms available for couples. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with items from their own home providing a comfortable, homely atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.

The Care Quality Commission inspections for the last four years have judged Carham Hall to be Good Overall, a remarkable achievement. The most recent  examination, unfortunately, recorded a ‘Requires Improvement’ rating. The loss of Mr John Baxter, the joint proprietor, who died in late 2017 had a profound effect on Carham Hall and it has taken a little time to adjust to this sad event.

The recent report registered a ‘Good’ result for care and all the other issues have been addressed and have either been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled. Carham Hall is very much open to providing care and encourages anyone,  who would like to discover more, to arrange a time to visit.

An unannounced inspection, this time by Environmental Health, who examine the Kitchen, storage, fridges and freezers, cookers and everything including the kitchen sink, once again for the fourth year running we attained a Five Star rating.

An inspection by the Lay Observer concentrating on care, comfort and wellbeing of all our residents, the quality of staff, the comfort of the home and the manner in which care is delivered gave Carham Hall top marks.

The Carham Hall team is committed to working hard to fulfil the very highest standards of care for all our guests and we welcome enquires and personal visits.

CQC Inspection Reports are available via the ‘See the report’ button at the bottom of the front page. Please note that the CQC registration was transferred solely to Mrs Jean Baxter early in 2018, all previous inspections can be viewed via the CQC link below and clicking on ‘see old profile’.

Care Quality Commission

In a recent CQC Inspection report, available by the link on this page, Carham Hall was, unfortunately, rated “Requires Improvement”. This did not refer to the care provided, which was rated good.

Most of the issues have been dealt with effectively and those that have not are in the process of being fulfilled.
